Orlando is not just for children

Orlando tourist board to target adults without children

The Orlando skyline

Visit Orlando (Orlando’s tourist board) is to launch a campaign in October to promote Orlando as a place for adults without children to choose as their next holiday destination.

For many years, Orlando has been seen as a haven for children to enjoy Disney, Universal, Legoland and its numerous other attractions, with Mum, Dad and Grandparents going along for the ride.

However this is not the case.  Orlando offers an exciting nightlife, has many places to visit, to wine and dine, and further afield there are national parks to enjoy and stunning beaches to relax on.  Not to mention the huge amounts of theme parks that aren’t just for kids!

For outdoor activities and spot, Orlando offers world class Golf courses, fishing, hot air balloon rides, watersports, swimming with Manatees, scuba diving and snorkelling, and loads of other outdoor activities.

We’ve visited Orlando without children before, and had a great time in Disney, Busch Gardens and Discovery Cove.  The restaurants and generous American portions go a long way to help, too.  We’ve gone further afield to visit the Florida Keys and Everglades, and the Gulf coast is supposed to be stunning.

So don’t wait for little people to turn up on the scene, visit our villa now before it’s too late and you’re worrying about whether the pool child safety screen is up!

2015 Florida Vacations open for booking!

2015 bookings now open

Orlando beckons!

Exclusive offer to our Facebook fans and previous contact enquiries

With our 2014 bookings filling up, we’ve decided to offer the 2015 calendar exclusively to our Facebook fans and previous contacts for the next 3 weeks.  This gives our most important customers the ability to book long stays in 2015 before anyone else gets in on the game.

A large proportion of our bookings are for 3 weeks or more, so we realise that to secure these sort of durations we’ve got to offer them out before the short stays get booked up.  Obviously this works out well for us as well, but hopefully it will be beneficial to both our customers and Dave’s Florida Villa.

If you know anyone who might be wanting to book a month in 2015, why not let them know about this blog entry?  They may even invite you along!

Dave’s Florida Villa offer a great discount scheme for stays of over 2 weeks, plus pool heat is also discounted at over 10%.  A great reason to send us an email and ask about 2015 Florida vacations.

September and October 2013 vacation rates reduced

Grab a last minute September or October Florida deal

We’ve just discounted our September and October rates!  There’s often no better time to visit Florida than as the nights start drawing in and the temperatures start to fall in the Northern hemisphere.  Getting home from work in the dark is no fun, so why not cheer yourself up and grab a last minute deal to our Tuscan Ridge villa?  The temperatures are still hot in Orlando at this time, without being too much – great for a family friendly holiday.

We have three weeks available in September, and one in October.

Our heated pool and spa are waiting for you!

Book now, or please share this post with someone who you know might like a fun filled Autumn trip to Florida and Disney, or just to play golf on one of the many courses in Florida.

April Fools in Florida. Over-reaction?

Indefinite suspension for April Fools’ joke

Florida morning radio hosts Val St. John and Scott Fish played an April Fools’ joke on their show.  But it backfired.  Indefinite suspension for an April Fools’ prank seems a little harsh to me!  Fort Myers watch out.

They warned listeners that dihydrogen monoxide was coming out of the taps in the Fort Myers area.  And they fell for it.

The Fort Myers population were so worried that Lee County Utilities had to make a statement saying that their dihydrogen monoxide (think water) is actually safe to drink.

Maybe there really was something in the water after all?

International Driving Permit required in Florida or not?

So do I need a permit?  Confused?

In January 2013 an international driving permit (IDP) was indeed needed in Florida to drive legally for visitors outside of the USA.

However this law has now been backtracked (March 2013):

The DHSMV released a Statement on International Driving Permits, stating that the Florida law will not be enforced until a final determination regarding the Geneva Convention on Road Traffic can be made. Although the DHSMV states the law will not be enforced, theoretically this law still exists.

They are only a few pounds to buy, and the Post Office sell them, so it may be worth a quick visit before heading off to Florida.  Get your IDP here.

A law introduced in Florida, USA, on 1 January 2013 requires all persons who hold a licence issued outside of the US to carry an International Driving Permit along with their national driving licence.  Without an IDP, a driver is therefore driving without a valid licence. If stopped, law enforcement has the options of  – Arresting the driver and taking them to jail  – Or giving the driver a citation with a mandatory court appearance.  The AA strongly advises that you should obtain an IDP if you intend to drive in Florida.  Although updates (below) indicate that a fine will not be given just for driving without an IDP, the law hasn’t been amended as yet and does still exist.
